Research and Development
In the following years, mainly related to the emerge of new activities of RD&I projects, a significant deluge of experimental data is expected, produced by new digital instruments (e.g., modern genome sequencers produce TBs of data in a single experiment). In order to store, access, and process the data, nowadays methods will no longer be sufficient. It will be necessary to develop new and/or modify known algorithms in order to efficiently use the multi-core computation environment. The common requirement of data confidentiality asks for new ways in security, user authentication and access to data, computations and their results. Deploying potential of such environments will no longer be possible without tight cooperation among informaticians and application field experts, having impact also in education on both sides.
Research and developments activities in the CERIT-SC centre are oriented mainly into two areas:
- Cooperation with research groups (by means of common projects) - CERIT-SC users do not act only as service consumers, but mainly as partners in research and production application of its results. Groups of employees and CERIT-SC students together with members of other institutions will be formed, working on specific problems of user communities that require non-trivial e-infrastructure support. The topics will be, e.g., paralelisation, new computation methods, computer modeling and simulation, huge data manipulation, etc.

Research and development in the area of flexible infrastructures - Research and development activites of the centre are oriented into areas related to operating the computation equipment installed in the centre. Main target areas include planning (virtual clusters, preemption, etc.), grid and cloud systems, security (authentisation, atuhorisation, federations), data processing, etc.
Centre CERIT-SC tightly cooperates with the Faculty of Informatics as well as other parts of the Masaryk University. It targets specifically into integrating master and graduate students. PhD study consultants work in the centre, helping students to integrade tightly into relevant research areas, their results immediately applied in the centre itself as well as other places. Integration into national and international projects and obtaining experience working in international project teams is obviously included. The Centre offers cooperation in mainly PhD student growth in other areas that are significant e-infrastructure users (usually in the form of block courses and/or semester lectures).
