1.5 Trillion Tokens and 4,300 Users: CERIT-SC Showcases Its Own AI Infrastructure for Czech Research at Brno.AI Meetup

Research data do not have to leave academic infrastructure to benefit from artificial intelligence. At Brno.AI Meetup #11, Terézia Slanináková from CERIT-SC at Masaryk University presented the AI inference services operated within e-INFRA CZ, demonstrating that this is not just an emerging technology, but a service already used by thousands of researchers and other users.

Brno.AI Meetup #11 took place on 4 November 2026 at Mendel University in Brno as part of the MAIDAY conference and the AI Days festival. The event featured fast-paced, two-minute presentations of projects from Brno's AI community, followed by networking opportunities. It was organised by Brno.AI, an initiative within JIC that connects companies, researchers and other members of the regional AI ecosystem.

Terézia Slanináková presented AI Inference Infrastructure for Czech Research, a project developed together with Lukáš Hejtmánek. Within e-INFRA CZ, open AI models run on dedicated computing infrastructure in Brno, without relying on commercial cloud services. The infrastructure delivers 200 quadrillion operations per second, has processed 1.5 trillion tokens in 2026 and serves more than 4,300 users through chat and API interfaces.

The presentation also highlighted practical lessons from operating the service. State-of-the-art open models are capable of handling complex tasks, researchers are increasingly moving beyond chat interfaces towards API integration, and models are being adapted to specific use cases. One example is Karel, an AI agent running on the infrastructure that prepares a daily report on its operational status.

CERIT-SC's participation in Brno.AI Meetup provided an opportunity to showcase academic AI solutions beyond the university environment, share experience from real-world operations and explore new collaborations with technology companies and research teams. It also demonstrated how academic infrastructure can serve not only as a foundation for research but also as an active contributor to the development of the regional AI ecosystem.
